'After the Storm' Quilt to Provide Comfort, Charity

Bee Friends, a local quilting bee, was inspired to create a quilt after the horrific floods of the Memorial Day holiday weekend of 2015 titled “After the Storm.” The unique group quilt features an inspirational and hope-filled image of the dawn of a new day over water along with two “hidden mermaids” embedded in the decorative quilting. The Bee has donated the quilt to be raffled off as a benefit for the Price Center between now and Sept. 17 where the winner will be announced from the stage of the Mermaid Splash. Tickets are available for a $5 donation (3 tickets for $10). Winner need not be present to win.

“Bee Friends started work on this quilt over a year ago, discussing what we would make, finding an inspiring pattern, and deciding to donate the finished quilt to the Price Center,” said Martise Cooper, Bee spokesperson. “It has been a coordinated effort of the Bee to see the quilt to its completion, and we hope the Price Center will benefit from the gift. May whoever wins this quilt find joy in its stitches,” she added.

The Bee meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Price Center. Their purpose is to provide an opportunity for fellowship with other quilters, chances to learn from new friends, and special time to work on Charity projects together. In addition to the charity quilts they’ve donated to the Center, the group’s good works include Christmas Stockings and Comfort Quilts for the clients of the Hays Caldwell Women’s Center and Book Bags for the clients of Hands of Hope. New members are always welcome.

See the quilt or purchase tickets at the Price Center at 222 W. San Antonio St., Mon. – Fri., 9-5 p.m.
