PRICE CENTER SEEKING VENDORS FOR MARDI GRAS PARADE WATCH & POP UP

The 8th annual San Marcos Mardi Gras Parade will roll past the Price Center shortly after noon on Sat., Feb 22 amid the enticing smells of New Orleans cuisine, the sounds of live Dixieland Jazz and an adoring throng. Because of its ideal downtown location, spacious Garden and street-side view, the Center will again host a Parade Watch & Pop Up from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. “We’ve secured the popular Dirty River Dixie Band and Steger’s Chiffonade who will be selling Seafood Gumbo, Red Beans & Rice and King Cake, and another vendor will be selling beignets,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director. “We’re off to a great start, and there’s room for more,’” he added. A new Call for Art focusing on women is underway for a special show in honor of International Women’s Day coming to the Price Center this March. Organizers behind a one-day pop-up event last spring at the library are extending the length of the show and expanding the number of participating artists. NEW MAKING IT CRAFT CLASS COMING TO PRICE CENTER

Following a successful Pop-Up art show in September, the Seaton Foundation is expanding its relationship with the Price Center via a new series of craft classes for adults being offered on the first Tuesday evening of each month. The classes will be open to all, and participants will leave each session with a finished product, including hand-painted scarves, tote bags, and greeting cards. The Seaton Foundation is covering the cost of the space and class instructor; however, a small fee to cover supplies and pre-registration is required. “We’re delighted to be offering more ‘maker classes’ at the Center and grateful to the folks at Seaton Foundation for taking the lead to help make it happen,

KIDS MARDI GRAS SHOEBOX FLOAT WORKSHOP FEB 1 @ PRICE CENTER

Feb, 1 from 10 – 11:30 a. m. for area kids interested in learning how to create a shoebox float to enter into a new fun, festive and friendly competition. “We wanted to make sure local children could easily get in on the Mardi Gras fun through a creative project that helps them experience a new cultural celebration while playing with feathers, beads, glue and their imaginations,” said Ann Dupont, contest chair. Basket Weaving Workshop Returning to Price Center

Local fiber and basket artist Cricket Rose is bringing basket weaving back to the Price Center via a two-day workshop Feb. 3 and 4 in which participants will make 2—3 different heart baskets.
