Springs of Life Church, an affirming congregation that gathers for worship at the Price Center every Sunday at 11 a.m. is sponsoring a free showing of 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture as part of its PRIDE Month observations.
“We’re excited to share this movie for those who have only ever heard that the Bible is against them. We believe that it’s possible to be your fully authentic self and still take the Bible seriously,” said Rev. Larry Gibson, pastor of Springs of Life Church.
1946 is a feature documentary that follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946. It chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University which unveil astonishing new revelations, and casts significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice.
Doors open at 6:15 PM, the film starts at 6:30 PM. A panel featuring three local LGBTQ+ affirming pastors: Allen Dewberry of 2.42 Church in San Marcos, Rev. Megan Elliott of Spirit of Joy in Seguin, and Rev. Keats Miles-Wallace of Technicolor Ministries will follow the showing.
