Price Center Co-Creator, Co-Founder Dies at 91

The Price Center is sad to share the news of the passing of our co-creator and co-founder Marie Jager, 91, who died Friday evening in her residence at Brookdale North in San Marcos.

The Price Center, in fact, the community at large owes so much to Marie and her late husband Ron. The pair were responsible for a number of arts and cultural events and activities happening in San Marcos today. From Sights & Sounds of Christmas to Summer in the Park to the Price Center itself, everything traces back to Ron and Marie.

The Jagers began a 20-year journey of transforming the dilapidated former church property into a vibrant community cultural and performing arts center after the property was purchased and donated to the city by H. Y. Price, Jr. in 1998. Room by room, they and a group of dedicated volunteers and donors, renovated and re-purposed two former sanctuaries, a fellowship hall, classroom and administrative spaces into venues for banquets, performances, film showings, workshops and classes, visual arts display and more. Their efforts were recognized with numerous honors and awards through the years, including the Texas Downtown Association's Best Adaptive Reuse Award in 2004. After completing renovations by the mid-2000s, the pair, then in their 80s, ran the Center operations on a strictly volunteer basis until retiring in 2017. Ron preceded her in death in July of 2017.

We are honored to be a part of Marie's legacy and intend to continue celebrating her vision through the Price Center each day. If you would like to make a donation in honor of Marie, checks may be mailed to 222 W. San Antonio St., San Marcos, TX 78666; by calling 512-392-2900, or via this link: https://www.price-center.org/donate-make-a-payment

Visitation will be held at Penningtin Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 23 from 6-8 p.m. and a Graveside Service will take place Sat., Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. at the San Marcos Cemetery.
