NEW COMMUNITY ART PROJECT SOARS AT PRICE CENTER

A new community art project has taken flight at the Price Center as part of its current art exhibition honoring Earth.  Together We Soar is a giant set of wings, constructed of 234 individually created feathers.

During the San Marcos Art Fest and for two weeks afterward, interested individuals picked up feather templates made from recycled cereal and cracker boxes and took them home to decorate. The completed feathers were due back at the Center by April 30.

Price Center Board Vice Chair Anna Broome, her husband Ryan, and daughter Luthien then designed, assembled, and installed the completed set.  

“Together We Soar, a companion to the current recycled art exhibition, features unique mini-artworks made from recycled items," said Clay DeStefano, executive director. “The seven-and-a-half-foot wings are hanging in our 1910 Ballroom through June 21 for now,” he added. Reusing and recycling is the concept behind The Upcycle Show - Transformations exhibit, which features 85 innovative, creative, and inspiring artworks by 75 area artists. The exhibit and the wings are on display throughout the first-floor galleries of the Price Center through June 21.

The Art Shows and related projects are conceived, curated, and executed by the Price Center Arts Committee. Together We Soar is the latest in a long line of hands-on community creations sponsored by the Committee.

The Price Center recently received Best of Hays honors for 2024 as Best Art Gallery/Exhibit. It was the sixth time the Center received Best of Hays acclaim. The Center is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, currently open 7 days a week for private rental, and open to the public W-F, Noon -5, and Sat., 10-3.
