Dia de los Muertos Focus of New Price Ctr. Ofrenda Workshop & Altar

The Price Center is collaborating with Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos to bring a Community Altar for Ofrendas to the Price Center for this year’s Dia de los Muertos celebration. Centro’s Michelle Sotolongo will lead a free information workshop explaining the cultural significance of the celebration and meanings behind various elements of an Ofrenda on Friday, Oct. 16 from 6-8 p.m. at the Price Center. A limited number of free, mini-ofrenda starter kits will also be distributed.
Ofrendas for the community altar may be dropped off at the Price Center Oct. 21 – Nov. 2. Participants are also encouraged to visit the Price Center’s Wind Phone while on site for Mensaje de las Muertos.
"We're grateful to Centro for this collaboration," said Clay DeStefano, Price Center executive director. "The Day of the Dead and altars are becoming popular in more cultures. This new Community Altar will give a lot more folks a chance to learn about and participate in the tradition," he added.
Community Alters will be on display at Centro and the Price Center Oct. 21 – Nov. 7. (Is that the Centro timeline, too?) A Public Dia de los Muertos potluck reception, featuring tamales, pan de Muerto, and sugar skulls cookies will be held at the Price Center on Nov. 2 from 6-8 p.m.
To reserve a space, please call the Price Center at 512-392-
2900, or send an email to info@price-center.org.
