CALL OPENS FOR TRIBUTES TO LA VIRGEN ART EXHIBIT IN PRICE CENTER’S UPPER GALLERY
Area artists Ana Borne and Rebecca Switzer are returning to the Price Center’s Upper Gallery for a second year with a show focusing on La Virgen. This year’s show, Tributes to La Virgen, is open to all area artists to submit Dec. 1 and 2. An application fee of $10 is due when submissions are dropped off ($5 for photos of body art and garden shrines/grottos). The show will hang Dec. 5 – Jan. 5. All area artists and types of media are welcome.
The talented pair hosted a two-person exhibit last December that drew area acclaim and media attention. “We’re hoping to see some truly unique interpretations this year,” said Ana Borne, co-creator of the show. “We’re adding Body Art and Outdoor Shrines to the Call, which can be submitted via photography, and should open up a lot more artistic interpretations of Our Lady,” said Rebecca Switzer, co-creator.
Last December, twenty-eight beautiful and personal depictions of Our Lady of Guadalupe by Borne and Switzer hung in the Upper Gallery at the Price Center. The unique Pop-Up Show featured work in a variety of media including found object assemblage, handmade paper, fiber art, mosaic, neon, and more.
The pair shared: “Our inspiration for this show came from years of fascination with the Virgen de Guadalupe and her history. Our work reimagines her image in different mediums to challenge and celebrate female strength. We are excited to see other artists’ tributes to Her.”
The public reception for Tributes to La Virgen is Sunday, Dec. 13, from 1–4 p.m. Meet the artists, learn about their creative processes and inspirations, and enjoy light refreshments. Admission is free and open to everyone.
The Price Center Galleries are open Wed. – Fri, noon-5 and Sat., 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The first-floor galleries will be featuring a show titled “Patterns, Textures, Forms.” Both shows will hang through Jan. 5. For more information, call 512-392-2900 or email info@price-center.org.
