For the 8th year in a row, an art show and reception honoring women and their art is in final planning stages for this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) observance at the Price Center in San Marcos. The Center’s Arts Committee and event founder Debangana Banerjee are putting together Break the Mold to gather, honor, share, and learn more about the female experience Feb. 28 – April 25 at the Price Center & Garden.
The anchor of the annual observance is the all-women’s visual arts show, which begins with a Call for Art set for Tues., Feb. 24 from noon – 6pm and Wed., Feb. 25 from 10 am. – 5 pm. at the Center. Visit price-center.org for more information and an artist application.

New to the Call for Art this year are updated intake times (later start and close on Tuesdays), a chance to submit an artist’s statement or bio with each show, and a new People’s Choice effort to engage viewers more and provide bragging rights to artists whose work is selected during the Show.
“The all-women’s show is one of the largest and most engaging art exhibits we host each year,” said Price Center Arts Committee Chair Joan Nagel. “Each year, hundreds of meaningful connections are made during the show and all of the related gatherings,” she added.

The Break the Mold Opening Reception and IWD Celebration are set for Sunday, March 8 from 3-5 p.m. will feature the visual arts show, remarks, and live music, dance, and poetry performances.
Shows in the community art gallery at the Price Center are created, coordinated, and curated by the Price Center Arts Committee.
