Public Reception for new Art Show at Price Center Set for Thursday Jan 23

A public reception for the new art show “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” will be held Thursday, Jan. 23 from 6-8 p.m. throughout the Price Center. Many of the artists in the show, refreshments, a fresh new display of quilts and live music will be among the highlights. The show features locally created works by more than 40 area artists’ take on love. The event is free and open to all.

“What’s Love Got to Do with It?” is the result of a community-wide call for art that produced a colorful and creative show featuring an eclectic mix of 81 original works in traditional media and subject matter along with a variety of whimsical treatments in mixed media, assemblage, sculpture, fabric art annd more. In addition, the show features a record 20 “new to the Center participating artists.” The works will hang throughout the Center through Feb. 22, may be viewed daily from 9 – 5, and most of the works are available for purchase.

In addition, a series of unique batik owls created by local artist Amanda Couve served as the starting point for a new series of quilts created by Bee Friends that hang in our stairwell gallery through February and a wonderful group quilt titled “All You Need is . . . Hearts” hanging in the 1910 Room.

Rotating Art Shows are created by the Price Center Art Committee and made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Proceeds from submissions and commissions from any sales benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.
