NEW ART, A VARIETY OF VENDORS, DIEZ Y SEIS, HIGHLIGHTED AT SEPT 14 SAN MERCADO

The Price Center’s San Mercado is set to take place on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with an eclectic mix of local vendors, Gallery shows, a new pop-up art show and a special selfie photo-booth celebrating Diez y Seis.

In addition to a variety of vendors and the current Gallery show, which features nearly 100 works inspired by San Marcos and our river, “Art with HeArt,” a special pop-up art show, will take place in the Price Center’s 1893 Room from 9 a.m. – noon. Artists with traumatic brain injuries, mental health diagnoses, intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and dementia will be showcasing watercolors, acrylics, oils, textile art, pen and inks, and photography. Many of the works will be available for purchase.

The remaining San Mercado activities will take place in the Garden and throughout the various other indoor venues of the Price Center from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The public is invited to join in the fun by taking and posting selfies from a Diez y Seis- inspired photo-booth featuring lots of fun props and visuals!

The Price Center will also offer an assortment of drinks for $1 donations, including bottled water, coffee, and soft drinks. Admission to San Mercado is free and open to all. The monthly market is made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Proceeds from booth rentals benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.

San Mercado is part of the new day-long second Saturday Downtown Walkabout featuring a free, family-friendly line-up of activities taking place downtown throughout the day once a month. Walkabout activities this month will also include Farmers Market from 9-1, Art Squared from 9-4, and a special Diez y Seis Fiesta from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. all on the Square. Live music, art demonstrations and shows, and a variety of downtown merchants and eateries specials keep things rolling throughout downtown into the evening.
