FALL BRINGS EXPANDED YOGA, TAI CHI, & ART OPPORTUNITIES TO PRICE CTR

August 20, 2019

Despite continued triple-digit temperatures, fall is on the horizon and with it comes changes in some of the ongoing classes at the Price Center, including dance, yoga, tai chi, and art activities. All offerings are open to all and include no-cost and low-cost options.

After a summer hiatus, ComDance returned last week with Jazz Dance on Tues, from 10:30 a.m. – Noon; Line Dance on Thurs., from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and Dance Fitness on Sat. from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Clogging (Mon. and Wed. from 10:15 – 11.am.), Ukulele (Mon. 11:05-11:50 a.m.) and Tap Dance (Thurs. 10:15 – 11:15 a.m.) will return the week of Sept. 9. All dance classes are free.

SMTX Yoga is adding another Gentle Yoga class on Thurs. from 9 -10:15 a.m. beginning Sept. 5 and has created a separate schedule of Mediation workshops that will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on the third Fridays in Sept., Nov. and Dec. Margaret Falletta will return with Beginner Tai Chi at 2:30 p.m. on Wed., Sept. 4, and an Intermediate class on Thurs. At 1 p.m. Each of these classes has a small fee which varies by instructor and class.

Upcoming art opportunities range from a new community Call for Art: “Peace & Understanding,” which will be accepting submissions Oct. 14 and 15.  Workshops in the works include LifeLong Learning’s offering of Creative Calligraphy with Michael Hannon on Tuesday evenings beginning Sept. 17 and plans for more mosaic and basket weaving sessions later in the fall.

Some of the Center’s free dance and art opportunities are made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. A portion of any proceeds from the sale of art on display benefits the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.
