SAN MERCADO RETURNS FEB 23

Last month’s San Mercado at the Price Center brought several new vendors, activities, performers and shoppers to the monthly market, which returns this month on Sat., Feb. 23 inside and outside the Center from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“New artists, a new baking company, and free arts and crafts activities, and live music will all return this month along with new art display from the Indigenous Cultures Institute students,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director. “And we’ve still got lots of room for more vendors,” he added.

To that end, a 25% off discount on booth rentals is again being offered to artists, makers, and culturally-centric vendors to help diversify and grow the market.

San Mercado visitors this month will also enjoy the kid-friendly “make your own Mardi Gras jewelry and masks” from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. and live music from Tracy Weinberg and New Friends from 1-3 p.m.

Tracy and his New Friends will delight with their unique mix of blues, swing, folk, and beyond, accompanied with a twist of humor. For this pre-Mardi Gras show at the Price Center, “new” friends: Gretchen McMahon on lead guitar, mandolin, and vocals, and Zach Crissman on electric bass will join him.

Admission to the Mercado is free and open to all. The Price Center will also be offering a variety of drinks and treats for $1 donations, including coffee, soft drinks and water.

Interested in participating? San Mercado booths are available, welcomed and encouraged for both private and retail vendors. “Multi-family” booths welcome. Vendors pay $20 for outdoor booths and $30 for indoor booths. (Be sure to ask if you qualify for the 25% discount.)

Vendor spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis and advanced registration is advised. Participants will need to bring their own tents, tables and necessary display equipment. Set up is from 8-9 a.m. on the day of the event. A limited number of ‘6 tables are available for rent at $10 each.

The monthly market is made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Proceeds from booth rentals benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.
