Price Center: Not Your Mamma's Senior Ctr.

Despite being housed in the historic 1893 and 1910 homes of First Christian Church, the Price Center in downtown San Marcos, serves as a new age senior center and so much more. Since 2000 the low cost/no cost, non-profit, community center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association, has served as a gathering place for celebrations, performances, presentations, displays and community events for all the citizens of, and visitors to, San Marcos.

The Price Center, which was just named the Downtown Legend Business for 2016 by Main Street San Marcos, prides itself on an inter-generational approach to healthy, creative living via a number of daily, weekly and monthly events with a particular focus on cultural and enrichment activities.

A variety of ongoing healthy and engaging classes and gatherings bring young, old and in-betweeners together throughout the Center each week. Light physical activities like Community Dance, Zumba Gold, Tai Chi and Chair Yoga classes are available daily. Enriching and engaging mentally is fun and easy via weekly Bridge and Mahjong games. Opportunities to express one creatively abound through monthly porcelain painting, quilting and one-off art workshops.

In addition, the Center’s Tea Room serves lunch 5-days a week from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and a weekly Sunday Brunch Buffet from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The former Euro Café’s Chef Ray prepares fresh healthy soups, salads and Euro-inspired hot entrees daily as well as providing custom catering for all events held at the Price Center.

Some of the Center’s newest offerings have become the most engaging. A new monthly community Flea Market called 4th Flea is attracting more than 100 shoppers and just last Saturday 20 vendors. Two new solo art shows opened this month. And, more musical, art and performance activities are being added to the calendar each week.
