With Hispanic Heritage Month in full swing, new events and activities are taking place around town to celebrate the Hispanic heritage and diversity found in San Marcos. That is why the Price Center is partnering with Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos to bring free Survival Spanish lessons to the public. With the start of fall, thoughts begin to shift towards planning for the upcoming holiday season and whether plans call for a small private gathering or a larger banquet-style event, the Price Center in downtown San Marcos provides a truly unique solution for any holiday need. “With some of the most distinct and beautiful holiday décor anywhere, a convenient location, and unique historic venues, the Center is always a hit with guests and win for hosts,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director. NEW CALL FOR ART FOCUSES ON PEACE & UNDERSTANDING

Given this time of great divisiveness in our country and the approaching busy holiday season for many diverse religions, the Price Center’s Art Committee is asking artists to help celebrate the spirit of Peace & Understanding by providing art that explores positive themes common to all humanity. The Call for Art is open to all area artists – all ages, all skill levels. Artwork may be dropped off Oct. 11 & Oct 15 from 9 – 5 each day. Any area Artist may submit up to two original works of art for this exhibit; 2-D works should be no larger than 24” x 36.” There is space for a limited number of small to medium-sized 3-D pieces. 4TH ANNUAL MERMAID SOCIETY ARTS, CULTURE, AND PRESERVATION SYMPOSIUM SET FOR SEPT. 8

Organizers of the 4th Annual Arts, Culture and Preservation Symposium hosted by Mermaid Society SMTX have created an expanded lineup of topics and presenters for the event slated to take place on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 1 – 6 p.m. at the Price Center in downtown San Marcos. This year’s event will include separate panel discussions on arts and cultural activities and opportunities, as well as preservation activities and opportunities, and an hour-long wrap-up session featuring a town hall like format will conclude the day. The symposium is free and open to all; however, seating is limited for each session to 100 people, so a reservation is required. Light refreshments will also be provided. All

NEW ART, A VARIETY OF VENDORS, DIEZ Y SEIS, HIGHLIGHTED AT SEPT 14 SAN MERCADO

The Price Center’s San Mercado is set to take place on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with an eclectic mix of local vendors, Gallery shows, a new pop-up art show and a special selfie photo-booth celebrating Diez y Seis. In addition to a variety of vendors and the current Gallery show, which features nearly 100 works inspired by San Marcos and our river, “Art with HeArt,” a special pop-up art show, will take place in the Price Center’s 1893 Room from 9 a.m. – noon.
