Lone Star Christmas Carol Promises Treasured Holiday Experience

The Price Center will help bring the familiar holiday Dickens’ classic many know and love to San Marcos this holiday season via a new telling through story and song from husband and wife team Gary and Donna Taylor. Thirteen new songs, written and arranged by Gary, bring a mix of bluegrass, swing, western, country and even a bit of jazz to the tale. A Lone Star Christmas Carol will be presented Sat., Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and again Sun., Dec. 16 at 2:30 on the Ron & Marie Jager Theatre stage in the 1910 Room. “Lovers of classic Western music are bound to love Gary Taylor’s score,” said Mark Lowry of “The music is the heart of this ‘Texas-ized’ version of Dickens’ classic story


The Price Center is honoring veterans this Third Thursday from 6-9 p.m. with more than a dozen Profiles of local Veterans by 5th graders from Crockett and Hernandez Elementary Schools and a live musical performance by the Heart of Texas Chorus beginning at 6:45. Additional new art displays by SMCISD K-12 and Pre-K students along with the opening of a new show of interpretations of Fall and Winter Holiday Traditions are also among the highlights. Wellness and healthy aging were the focus of a TEDx talk given this past week by Price Center executive Director Clay DeStefano. The talk included stories of three particular remarkably healthy seniors who are regular and active participants in a number of the Center’s events and activities. Price Center patrons Carmen Willey, a 100-year-old painter; 96-year-old Sara Carpenter, a lifelong dancer; and Rouye Rush, the 96-year-old co-creator of an active quilting Bee, were highlighted because of their active, creative, and inspiring lifestyles. As part of its annual celebration of National Arts Month, the San Marcos Arts Commission awards a number of SMarts Advocacy awards to local individuals and organizations contributing to arts and cultural activities in San Marcos. The group gathered recently to award this year’s slate, including the SMarts Community Advocate Award to the Price Center. Commissioner Stephanie Symmes recognized the significant role the Center plays in the downtown cultural and performing arts scene when presenting the award.
