CENTER DIVING INTO MERMAID CELEBRATIONS BEGINNING THIS SATURDAY

As San Marcans continue cleanup efforts from Hurricane Harvey, they’re also beginning final preparations for the second annual Mermaid Society SMTX’s September slate of activities. The Price Center will again serve as the host site for several mermaid-related celebrations throughout the month. From arts shows, receptions and special film showings, the Center is providing locals and visitors alike with a variety of free ways to “get their mermaid on” all month long. Mermaid season officially kicks off at the Price Center with an art show opening this Saturday, Sept. 2 from 6-9 p.m. The unique show focuses on Mermaids, Spring Lake and our natural springs, and water in general. 4th Flea Set for this Saturday

4th Flea, San Marcos’ only monthly community flea market, will help welcome students back with its Aug. 26th market from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The monthly Market takes place outdoors in the Garden and inside the historic Price Center in downtown San Marcos. A limited number of indoor and outdoor booth spaces are still available. “San Marcos has been fairly quiet all summer,” said Clay DeStefano, Price Center executive director. “Now that the student population is returning and furnishing dorms and apartments, we’re anticipating a larger turnout.” 4th Flea booths are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for both private and retail vendors. 3rd Thursday to Feature Book, Images of Spring Lake and Dinner Service

Ron Coley, local photographer, filmmaker, and author will be the featured artist at the Price Center’s Aug. 17th 3rd Thursday Downtown Walkabout. Coley will be sharing his newest book and images. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend the free, family-friendly event. A special, seated dinner service will also be offered. “With students returning to the downtown scene this month, we look forward to seeing more of them starting this month,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director. Dr. Jager's Life to be Celebrated at the Center this Friday Night, Burial Saturday
