Two Solo Art Shows Opening in Oct.

Two local artists, a photographer and an oil painter, are featured in upcoming solo art shows officially opening at the Price Center next month. Both shows, which provide intimate looks at nature, man and animals, will hang in the Center located at 222 W. San Antonio St. in downtown San Marcos throughout Oct. and Nov. The first show features local photographer and raconteur Carl Deal who offers a striking assortment of 34 primarily black and white nature and portrait images from around the world and San Marcos. Deals’ work hangs in the Center’s Parlor and historic 1910 Room. An Opening Reception will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Sat., Oct.1. The second show featuring painter Georgiana Chenau

4th Flea Set for This Sat.

4th Flea, the new downtown monthly community flea market will set up again this Sat. from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Price Center. This will be the fifth offering of the growing community Market that featured 10 vendors last month and more than 100 shoppers “We’re pleased with our progress,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director. “This month we’re welcoming some returning vendors as well as a few new ones, including a company that makes one-of-a-kind baby and toddler clothing.” 4th Flea booths are still available and filled on a first come, first served basis. Free Community Dance Classes Resume at Price Center Sept. 20

Come to the Price Center on Tuesdays from 11:30 to 1:00 for Free Line Dance classes. This year, instructor, Dr. Cindy Gratz, plans to teach Line Dances from Around the World. In addition, participants have opportunities to perform at community events and local senior facilities (not a requirement, of course!). “By using music and dance from around the world, I think we will touch the hearts and memories of people in this wonderful community of San Marcos,” said Gratz. New Weekly Sunday Brunch Kicking Off with Mermaid Flair

The Price Center’s 1st Sunday Brunch Buffet on Aug. 7 was such a resounding success its creators have decided to take it weekly beginning Sept. 11, which is also the 2nd day of Mermaid Week so the Buffet will feature mermaid-inspired menu items, including a seafood entrée and mermaid-inspired artwork on the walls of the Tea Room. Nearly 100 people stopped in to the Center’s Tea Room during its debut on Aug. 7 to check out the new offering. Chef Ray Abiza, formerly of Euro Café, created a buffet spread that included crepes, eggs, rustic potatoes, custom omelets, and a delicious assortment of European-inspired entrees including a seafood creole, three fresh salads, coffee, tea and juice. “Bas
